Philippe Manoury

  • Composer

Despite his training as a pianist and composer, Philippe Manoury claims he is self-taught. His encounter with the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen had a decisive impact on his writing which relies often on mathematical models. This interest led him to IRCAM where he took part in the development of Max/MSP. This research was the starting point for his oeuvre and nourished it and he has always continued his research in parallel to his activity as a composer.

In 2014, Philippe Manoury was appointed Chevalier des Arts et Lettres in France. He is a member of the honorary committee of the Franco-German fund for contemporary music / Impuls Neue Musik and was appointed a member of the Academy of the Arts in Berlin during the summer of 2015.
