Nikel is a quartet made up of a saxophone, an electric guitar, a percussionist, and a piano. Combining classical and contemporary, this group offers an alternative chamber music in which electric and acoustic sounds fusion in a unified sonic organism, built on a vast—but selective—vocabulary. Their constant research on new musical ideas relies not on aesthetic prejudices nor on dichotomies of genre, but on a passion and devotion to the fabrication and interpretation of great music.
Founded in 2006, the ensemble has been invited often to perform by prestigious European festivals: Wien Modern, International Summer Course for New Music Darmstadt, Klangspuren, and Impuls.
