A concert in homage to Éric Daubresse
“Because it was him, because it was me.” The musical adventure of Emmanuel Nunes at IRCAM is inherently connected to the presence of Éric Daubresse: his conception of space, of timbre, and of electronics was nourished by this propinquity, extraordinary in its longevity.
The masterpiece Nachtmusik resides in the low registers of an unusual quintet; from a rare and frugal sound—the matrix only uses 8 notes—the work’s dramatic and hieratic intensity erupts, reinforced by the electronics’ ring modulation. A similar rigor characterizes the world of Pierluigi Billone, attentive to the “stranger who watches us”. His listening applies to the intelligence of the hand, that of the performer and of his own; he tests the instrument he wants to probe. Eric Maestri, inspired here by Marguerite Duras, watches the outside space: the sensation of the wind and expanding elements, a long-desired coincidence between the moments of living and moments of writing.
