Orchestration and the ACTOR Project

Workshop

This one-day workshop explores the future of orchestration as an art form, research discipline, and space for development of new computer tools. The ACTOR project is an interdisciplinary collaboration involving over 20 academic, industrial, and artistic organizations working together to develop a 21^st century approach to orchestration. The morning sessions will present the three pillars of ACTOR (perceptual, technological, and compositional) through scientific and musicology presentations. The afternoon sessions will include hands-on workshops with cutting-edge computer-assisted orchestration software “Orchids” and “Éric”, panel discussions, debates, the projection of a film on the acoustic documentation of an orchestral performance, and discussion on orchestration with renowned composers.
